"Acupuncture treatment for back pain. Beverly Wilmot." Click for Video Testimonial I used to drive across the Bay Bridge (Oakland - San Francisco) on a regular basis. In a three year span, I must have driven back and forth over it a 1, 000 times when I worked in the Richmond district in SF. Loved my job, but not getting there and back. Pardon the pun, but the stress took a toll. I drove a stick shift at the time and started getting a shooting pain down my leg when I stepped on the clutch in traffic. It would not go away so Shana Stiles suggested I try acupuncture despite the fact I'm afraid of needles. Nevertheless, I went to The Redwood Clinic three times and Dr. Jay Sordean fixed it. It was not what I thought it would be like and it didn't hurt at all. It was relaxing and a relief. It was nice to see him again at the Emeryville Chamber Healthy City Expo." -- Kathy Helt, from the Emeryville Connection "Lifestyle" section October 2009.
The transition between having regular periods and total cessation of periods is called perimenopause. This can last from two to more than ten years, and the median age of menopause in industrialized countries is about 51. Thus, menopause is not a sudden event but is a gradual physiological process that may be influenced by one’s lifestyle and habits. With follicular depletion comes a decline in estrogen; and with cessation of ovulation comes a lack of progesterone. These are the two primary hormones given to women treated with HRT to treat the various symptoms associated with menopause. There are risks associated with hormone replacement therapy; the discomforts and symptoms associated with menopause may be intense enough to move women to try HRT or natural means of mitigating the changes in hormones. At The Redwood Clinic we use a variety of natural approaches to help women with perimenopausal and menopausal changes. Contact us today for a FREE, no obligation consultation "My “Western Doctor” told me I needed a shrink — Jay Sordean helped me balance my hormones and the way my body accesses and uses food — much better! Thanks again! " Norma B. Infertility, the inability to become pregnant, has a variety of causes. They include irregular periods, hormone imbalances, thyroid problems, PCOS, poor circulation in the lower abdomen, endometriosis, autoimmune disorders, ceasing of menstruation, and others. A careful and thorough evaluation and examination must include hormone testing spanning the entire menstrual cycle; we find this very informative to define the dynamics of the primary hormones related to fertility. Of course, if there is PCOS, there might not be a regular cycle and thus the testing process would be different. Examination also requires evaluation of the temperature of the various areas of the torso; uneven temperature can be a significant indication of insufficient circulation and thus inability to create the right uterine environment. Following evaluation a treatment program is created. Treatment includes acupuncture, home exercises and massage, nutrition, herbal formulas, homeopathic remedies, hormone balancing, and stress reduction. Asthma Asthma is a condition of breathing difficulty where the airways occasionally constrict, become inflamed and are lined with excessive amounts of mucous. Episodes may be triggered by environmental stimulants, such as allergens, tobacco smoke, cold or warm air, perfume, pet dander, moist air, exercise, emotional stress, or other chemical exposures. Symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing. Symptoms of asthma can range from mild to life threatening. Elimination of the offending substances and drugs are commonly used to address the problem. Acupuncture, herbs, vitamins, nutritional changes, homeopathy, and other approaches have been found to help many adults and children. "Our 3-year old son Oliver suffered from asthma whenever he got an upper respiratory virus before coming to see Dr. Jay. The pediatrician was recommending a daily steroid. We decided to see Dr. Jay instead. Oliver received massage, homeopathy, and supplements, and has been seeing Dr. Jay for one year now. He’s had no asthma symptoms since starting at The Redwood Clinic. And unlike visiting the pediatrician, he [Oliver] enjoys coming here! THANKS." --Oliver’s Mom & Dad
Hypothyroid, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Grave's Disease First of all, take our thyroid survey in PDF form, or complete our online survey. All three of these conditions are related to your thyroid. The thyroid gland is located in the neck/throat area and is composed of nodules. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate many processes in your body. This includes the amount of energy you produce, and thus the temperature of your body is directly effected by the activity of the thyroid. Hypothyroid is a condition of LOW thyroid activity. "HYPO-" means low. Symptoms of hypothyroid include fatigue, coldness, weight gain and loss of hair. Hyperthyroid is a condition of HIGH thyroid activity. "HYPER-" means high. Symptoms of hyperthyroid include huge appetite but loss of weight, feeling of heat in the body, excessive sweating, and difficulty sleeping. Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Grave's Disease are both autoimmune disorders. Autoimmune means that your body is attacking itself. Your normal immune system protects against viruses and bacteria by destroying them. When your immune system makes a mistake, it thinks that normal parts of your body are enemies and must be destroyed, as if they were viruses and bacteria. This is what an autoimmune disorder or disease is; the body attacking and destroying itself. In both Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Grave's Disease, the immune system is attacking the thyroid gland. Grave's diseases is a state of hyperthyroid. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is usually hypothyroid, but sometimes it has hyperthyroid cycles. Treatment of hypothyroid conditions and autoimmune thyroid conditions requires a sophisticated understanding of hormones, the immune system, and the underlying factors that support normal function and factors that make the problems worse. These include thyroid hormones, iodine, heavy metal toxicity, food allergies, the condition of the adrenals, stress responses, blood sugar metabolism, the health of the digestive system, and others. Laboratory testing may require measuring hormones and antibodies among others. We have the training, knowlege, and experience to help you better understand and address these conditions that effect your health and well being profoundly. 5 essential questions to ask before choosing a natural medicine provider 1. How long has the doctor been in practice? What is their licensure and for how long? 2. What range of conditions does the doctor treat? Is the doctor knowledgable in and have experience with my particular problem? What age ranges of patients does the doctor treat? 3. What types of natural medicine have they trained in? Is the doctor knowledgable in a wide range of supplements and are they available on-site? 4. Do they have a wholistic approach or do they only look at symptom relief? 5. Do they have further post-licensure qualifications, training, and/or certifications? |
